My friend Mark van Clieaf is an org design consultant. He works with Boards to help them build organizations that maximize value creation. He is a very smart fellow but he doesn’t always know the answer. He likes to hear other points of view. This lead him to a collaboration technique I call Open Source Consulting.
In essence, like Linux and other open source software products, he puts problems out to his circle of friends and colleagues to see what they have to say that can contribute to a solution. Contributors don’t get paid but can use the resulting IP without paying Mark. He just asks that he be credited. Open Source consulting works works very well for Mark. He is very successful. Can it work for you?
